What is PagePlanet?
- PagePlanet is our public URL address. Though our name is Kelly Freehold and it serves us well, we recognize that some companies may shy away from a non-DNS name that has Kelly Freehold in it, i.e., http://www.Kelly Freehold.com/yourcompany. As an alternative, we offer pageplanet as the DNS pointer so that your non-DNS name will appear as http://www.pageplanet.com/yourcompany. This in not an issue for those companies who have their own domain name; Kelly Freehold disappears completely and your customers see only http://www.yourcompany.com. A domain name is obtained through Kelly Freehold from InterNIC .
Connection Speed
- All accounts are provided with a full T1 connection. And Kelly Freehold has redundancy not only with the T1 lines themselves, but we also use an emergency ISDN backup in the event of multiple POP failures or router failures.
- If you should experience service difficulties, the problem typically involves something completely out of our control. Kelly Freehold equipment rarely, if ever, malfunctions and the provider of our telco link, BellSouth, has a track record unrivaled in the industry. However, in the event of any problem, we always make the assumption that we are at fault and we will work from that point toward a resolution. Please contact us if you are having any type of connection and/or speed problems.
Hard drive space
- The average web site actually uses very little hard disk space. The html files are all text and the images are in some compressed format so that they can be quickly transmitted via modem to an end user. As an example, the entire Kelly Freehold site, images and all, takes up less than half of a meg of space.
- Kelly Freehold's basic account includes five megs of space and, if needed, additional space is available for $2.00 per meg per month. Your hard drive space allotment is not restricted, therefore you do not need to contact Kelly Freehold to increase the size of your web site.
Secure Server
- A full 128 bit RSA encrypted server is provided for secure transfer of financial and confidential information.
Data Transfer Charges
- Kelly Freehold includes one gigabyte of data transfer per month in the base account. Kelly Freehold measures the data traffic for your account monthly; this figure does not include ftp access for the purpose of changing your web site. To give you a better understanding of data transfer quantities, one gigabyte of transfer represents 20,000 hits on a 50 KB page. On the same scale assuming a 5 KB text page, a 25 KB graphics-light page, and a 50 KB graphics-heavy page, the following monthly transfer estimates would apply:

- Kelly Freehold charges 1.5 cents per megabyte for data transfer over the one gigabyte base allocation. This rate represents $15 per gigabyte which is typically one fifth the price of data transfer at other ISPs.
FTP Access
- You have unlimited access to your ftp space for the purpose of amending your web site.
MGI Introduction
- MGI is a plug-in to WebSTAR (Macintosh) and IIS (NT) with server side includes, send mail, forms processing, guestbook, authentication, banner ad, database, and E-commerce functionality along with many other goodies. For system administrators, MGI is virtually plug and play. For web site developers, MGI integrates quickly and easily with any design.
Counter MGi
- Keep track of how many times your pages are viewed.
Guestbook MGi
- Keep a listing of people that contact your page for personal or business reasons.
Listserv
- Gives your company the ability to bulk email messages and announcements to subscribers. Listservs also allow for interactive discussion among those individuals who subscribe to the service your company offers. Kelly Freehold only allows opt in listservs - that is, subscribers must make a positive action to join your mailing list.
Interactive forms
- Forms allow your customers to interact with your company. The two most commonly used form types are the information form (where a customer can full out personal information so that you may more easily assist them) and the order form (where a customer may submit financial information to purchase goods or services.)
Email Forms MGi
- When customers respond to a form on your web page, Kelly Freehold formats and then forwards the information to your email account. You read the customer information directly from your email account and respond via email or print out the request for further processing.
AutoFax Forms MGi
- Customer responses to forms are automatically faxed to your machine as Kelly Freehold receives them. This service is designed to allow our clients who are not net connected to take advantage of the World Wide Web.
FTP Forms MGi
- Customer responses to forms are deposited on our servers until you retrieve them via FTP. This service will accumulate returned forms in an FTP basket where you can retrieve and process them as a group.
- Kelly Freehold provides an email account for you to send and receive mail through your domain name or forwards mail to your current account. Your Kelly Freehold email address has the form of user@yourcompany.com. There are two types of email - POP and forwarded. A POP account is a "true" email account where your email bin resides directly on our servers. You read and respond to email using our facilities. An email forwarding account is designed to work in conjunction with your existing and local ISP. Kelly Freehold forwards all incoming email to your existing email account where you read and respond from there. An additional variation often used for a forwarded account is with special email addresses such as info@yourcompany.com or service@yourcompany.com. Addresses such as those can either be POP accounts or they can forward to a POP account located on our server or remotely at your local ISP. For example, in that way, an email addressed to support@yourcompany.com can be forwarded to your technical support manager.
Domain Name
- Domain names make it easier for potential customers or other users to find your site and give the illusion that you have invested in your own web server. Your domain name has the form of http://www.yourcompany.com rather than http://www.pageplanet.com/web/yourcompany. A company called InterNIC act as the gateway for domain name registration.
InterNIC
- InterNIC is the agency designated to make sure that your domain name is unique. They make sure that only your company is using your domain name. And they also facilitate changing that name into a number. The reason for that is that computers do not particularly like letters; they need numbers to function. Each web account has an IP number that designates its existence. Yet you would not want your customers to have to remember strings of numbers; it is far easier for them to remember your company name. InterNIC makes sure that when your customers type in www.yourcompany it maps properly to its IP number. InterNIC charges $35 per year (two years up-front) for this service. Kelly Freehold will register for free your domain name and manage it without charge; InterNIC registeration fee can be billed directly to your credit card, or we will bill you directly. These charges are due when processed.
Database services
- Kelly Freehold can host any size database, creating return .html pages on the fly.
Search engines
- There are several varieties of search engines available to integrate with your database service. Kelly Freehold custom designs our search engines and the interface to properly suit your needs.
Shopping cart
- Kelly Freehold can integrate shopping cart MGIs with your database making it easier for your customers to order directly off your web site.
Software Delivery
- In many cases, it is advantageous to deliver software via the web. Kelly Freehold can provide that service, particularly in conjunction with its secure credit card forms.
Custom MGIs
- Kelly Freehold can script custom-designed MGIs to deal with those particular functions that will make your web site outstanding.
